The Colour of 2018

We are already one month into the new year, and with the new year will come new trends and styles. Pantone describes ultra violet as a “provocative and thoughtful purple shade” that embodies individuality and spirituality. Pantone is the masterminds behind the colour of the year, and this year has carefully selected Ultra Violet (18-3838) as the colour of 2018. The colour chosen is not just picked up on by fashionistas, but it diverts into other markets such as furniture, architecture, interior design, set design and even art and entertainment.

You may suddenly start to notice the clothing racks are filled with purple garments, furniture stores suddenly become a sea of violet and even TV shows are featuring the colour far more than before. “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
